Introducing Lynda Hart – People Partner
Lynda’s Journey at eSmart Networks:
Lynda joined eSmart Networks in August 2020 on a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave as a People Partner. She was responsible for looking after eSmart Networks and TriConnex.
In August 2021, Lynda was offered a permanent position as a People Partner, with this, her responsibilities expanded to managing Advanced Water Infrastructure Networks, Advanced Electricity Networks, Advanced Utility Networks as well as eSmart Networks and TriConnex.
Tell us more about your role:
“As a People Partner, I look after employees in their end-to-end lifecycle, this means I look after people from day 1 of their employment all the way through and anything in-between.
I recently visited our Belfast office to welcome the latest intake of Electrical Engineering graduates and talk them through our HR protocol. This is a key part of my role, welcoming new employees and getting to know them, building up a relationship so we can communicate openly if they ever need it.
Additionally, I am responsible for people development, ensuring that employees always feel like they can expand their knowledge and know we are here to support them through their learning and performance.”
What does a typical day look like?
“There is no real typical day in my role, it depends on what is going on within the business that week – the variety of this role is what I enjoy.
I regularly work on projects to implement processes that benefit our business and the employees, such as transitioning to eLearning. This allowed us as a business to grow and track our employee’s progress.
Another day-to-day responsibility is working on regular policy updates and making sure that as a business we have the correct policies and procedures in place to protect everyone.
Aside from other responsibilities, my main task is all about the employees. All of my work is focused on them, from their development to their performance within the role.”
How does your new role differ from your previous one?
“In terms of the role itself, it doesn’t differ drastically, but the industry differs a lot. Coming into the utility industry was definitely a learning curve.
I love working here, I am constantly expanding my knowledge, especially within the utilities industry. In my role, I’ve found myself learning from lots of different people throughout the business, it’s taught me how all the various departments fit into the business.”
How do you demonstrate our values?
“Challenging assumptions is what we do as People Partners. We don’t assume, we find facts that would support anything that comes forward.
We are driven by legislation, so we support each other, the business and the employees through processes they’re going through, whether it be something in their life or job.
Finding a better way, I think is something we strive to do, we demonstrate that through eLearning and moving away from Excel sheets. Also, by implementing a new performance system, ensuring we support the business in its continued growth.”
