That’s the theme running through this year’s Sheds UK conference at the Oval Cricket Ground, and it’s front and centre in the Power Case Studies session.

Across the UK, industrial and logistics developers are running into the same problem: the grid capacity isn’t there when they need it. Connection queues stretch years, not months. Sites that tick every other box get held up by a single question: can this scheme actually get enough power?
That’s the subject of the Power Case Studies session, where eSmart Networks’ Grid Solutions Director, Brian Moorhead, will be tackling four questions that are shaping the sector right now.
How bad is the constraint, and where is it worst?
Some regions are feeling this far more acutely than others. The session will look at where power scarcity is genuinely holding back development, and where it’s more manageable, giving developers a clearer picture of where the real pinch points are.
What are developers doing about it?
On-site generation, battery storage and alternative energy solutions have gone from nice-to-have to essential parts of the conversation. Brian will share real examples of how developers are working around grid limitations rather than waiting for them to be solved.
What does this mean for cost and design?
Tightening carbon and energy standards aren’t happening in isolation from the power constraint, they’re colliding with it. That has real implications for how schemes are designed and costed from the outset, not bolted on at the end.
Is investment shifting because of it?
Perhaps the most interesting question of all. If power is genuinely scarce in some parts of the country, is that starting to redirect where industrial investment goes? The session will explore whether this is already happening, or still on the horizon.
